A Closer Look at Some Back Pain Causes

By Jonas Varig

There are so many ways that an individual can get back pain. This is partly because the back has more than twenty separate vertebrae, which makes it vulnerable to injuries in many different places. After all, you can have pain in your lower, middle or upper back. To help you out, this article will present the leading causes for back pain and what you might do to end your pain and suffering.

One thing that can have an impact on your back would be the type of footwear you normally wear. Wearing shoes that do not provide adequate support may result in back pain.

You can be subject to back pain - especially in your lower back - if your mattress is worn out and doesn't support you correctly. If your mattress is no longer able to support your back properly, your spine gets out of alignment and you can end up with lower back pain. Different mattresses will be "perfect" for different people. Not everyone's choice will be the same. Be that as it may, no one will benefit by sleeping on a bad mattress. Look your mattress over and, if it is old and worn out, consider buying a new mattress and see if that helps. Sleeping with a lot of pillows strains your back and result in back pain. Your neck and head will not be properly aligned with your back when you raise it up with an abundance of pillows. This, as you might have surmised by now, can lead to back pain.

This eventually contributes to spinal degeneration. Another lesser known cause of back problems is dehydration, as the discs that support your vertebrae require a steady supply of water to stay healthy. Dehydration is something we need to take heed of and make sure that our entire body is given the required amounts of water to maintain optimal health.

Pregnancy often causes low back pain, due to increased pressure caused by the baby. Your vertebrae in your spine can also feel discomfort based upon the hormones released during pregnancy. Back pain of this type can actually be remedied to some degree with exercises that can help in these specific areas. Sometimes there are classes available that can offer these particular exercises; your doctor can also help you understand what to do. By exercising regularly, you can help avert or lessen the pain that you may be feeling that is a direct result of your pregnancy and unborn child. Back pain can have a major negative impact on your life. So much so, in fact, that the simple act of getting out of bed in the morning can be a traumatic experience. If you can discover why you suffer from back pain, you can set a plan in place to keep the pain from returning in the future. The first step, of course, is to take care of any medical conditions that could lead, or contribute, to your back pain. If it's not a side effect of an illness, then it's time to take a long, hard look at your life and try to determine what you might be doing - or not doing - that is causing your back pain.
