You have to be in a negative caloric balance in order to lose weight. But in order to maintain this you need to have a solid mental game plan in place.
Unfortunately, most weight loss hopefuls don't take the mental game seriously.
So here is how to strengthen your mental game plan:
1. Avoid nebulous statements of purpose: You need to have a very clear objective that is easily defined. If your goal is vague and nebulous, your actions will be nebulous. So make sure you destination is as clear as possible.
2. Have a tracking system in place: The better able you are to track your progress, the better able you will be at keeping perspective. You see, it's a common human characteristic to lose track of progress over long periods of time.
3. Don't self activate by avoiding the negative: If you motivate yourself to get going because of a negative outcome, you will eventually lose motivation. Instead, strive to motivate yourself by running towards a positive outcome.
4. Take massive action: Ignore the whole baby step mentality. If you want motivating results you need to take big action here. And if big action overwhelms you, then simply scale back. But don't fall into the trap of doing too little.
5. Keep your network pristine: You want to avoid mixing with people who don't have the same goals as you. If you do this you will not be able to remain focused all the time. Instead, surround yourself with people who have similar goals.
6. Embrace failure: You need to expect failure. If you expect a perfect ride you will get disillusioned. And keep in mind that the most successful entities in any domain have the highest rates of failure because they take so much action.
A solid game plan for you mind will help you stay the course when things get rough. So make sure you take action here sooner rather than later!
