Riding a bike to work is a great start to any day

By James Clarke

Many homes in the UK now have at least one car which is used to travel to and from work. Whilst this might be convenient, it's often not much fun for the car driver, as traffic jams and congestion are getting worse all the time. The return home trip isn't often much fun either and you can often arrive home after battling your way through the traffic feeling more stressed than when you left work.

The traffic is at its worst during the rush hours in the morning and late afternoon and these are the times you'll often want to use the car. But using public transport often isn't stress-free either, crowded trains and hectic tubes can leave you feeling flustered and not wanting to repeat the exercise.

There is another option however instead of driving or using public transport, and that's riding a bike. Countless hundreds of people in the UK are now realising the benefits of riding a bike to work, which can only be a good thing.

There are many benefits to cycling to work. Some of these include - there are no car ownership costs or costs to travel on public transport, you can get fit, there's no sitting in traffic jams, it's better for the environment and cycling has been proven to reduce stress. All this means that it's hard to see why cycling is not even more popular than it already is.

Many companies are now offering their employees incentives to ride a bike to work and the UK government is spending thousands improving and creating designated cycle paths on all major routes into and out of urban areas. There's also been an explosion of cycle shelters and bike racks at various points across many cities in the UK, so you have somewhere safe and secure to park your bike while you're in the office.
